Unprecedented Demand for Cloud Based Services

Serverstream cloud capacity quadrupled in first six months.

Serverstream announced the launch of it’s public cloud offering in September 2010 and have since seen unprecedented demand for it’s cloud based services.

There is no denying that cloud computing has taken the IT industry by storm. Research giant IDC estimates that globally companies currently spend £10.7bn a year on cloud IT services, with the market predicted to reach £27bn by 2013.

A survey of 200 European chief information officers commissioned by networking and storage vendor Brocade in 2010 found that more than a quarter of large companies were planning to migrate some element of their internal IT infrastructure to a cloud model within the next two years, with 11% within one year.

This is backed up by research analysts, 451 Group, who claim there is still a long way to go before cloud-based products and services replace traditional IT infrastructure. They estimate less than 10% of global IT spend is on cloud computing however expect this to change considerably as budgets are restrained post recession. “The economic crisis means companies are avoiding capital expenditure. Cloud Computing offers them a way of avoiding capital expenditure without negatively affecting capacity, and they don’t have to provision for peak capacity” Mark Fellows, 451 Group.
